There’s no better combination than putting together a group of enthusiastic kids and letting them cut, paste, draw, or paint to create colorful expressive artwork that only kids can image. Well that just happened in Bear Valley Springs’s Whiting Center where twenty-five kids ages from 7-12 attended the 3rd annual art workshop sponsored by Bear Valley Springs Cultural Arts.
Juanita Niemeyer the teacher/artist for the week of July 16th instructed the kids from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on the elements of art, and looked to the Masters such as Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne, and Alexander Calder for inspiration. During the week with intense concentration or exuberant execution (depending on the child) master-pieces were created such as Picasso-like self portraits, pastel paintings of a fruit bowl, and wire art in foam boards.
By Friday afternoon, the walls of the Whiting Center’s “Green Room” were covered with amazing art and the kids proudly exhibited their newly created body of work in a mini art show attended by parents and grandparents. The workshop ended with a picnic lunch at the old school house next to BVS’s General Store where everyone shared tasteful goodies and creative memories from the past week.
