The Whiting Center is the main recreation facility of the Bear Valley Springs community.  It offers an indoor gymnasium, dry sauna, jacuzzi, fitness center, exercise classes, and a fitness center.

The indoor gymnasium serves multiple purposes - from basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and hockey to exercise classes for all fitness levels and roller skating, there is something for everyone.  The game room offers the opportunity to play pool, air hockey, ping pong, watch television, or play one of our many board games.  Meeting rooms are available for community clubs and classes.  The fitness center offers free weights and cardio and when you finish your workout, you can enjoy the jacuzzi, dry sauna, or showers.

BVSA Youth Sports include the following leagues: soccer, t-ball & rookie baseball, basketball, inline roller hockey, and an annual summer baseball camp.  For adults, weekly pick up basketball and senior co-ed pick up softball are offered throughout the year.

The Whiting Center also supports outlying amenities including reservations for the campgrounds and shooting range, fishing permits, boat tags, or event reservations at the lakes.  Table & chair rentals are also available for a nominal fee. Our staff can also help with sign ups for Rummage Sales at Cub Lake and 4th of July festivities

Annually, the Whiting Center hosts community events including Easter Egg Hunts, a Halloween Carnival, Trunk or Treat, Arts & Craft Shows, Dances, the T-pops Orchestra, and Christmas Family Fun.

How did the Whiting Center receive its name?

The Whiting Center is a lasting memorial to Sam J. Whiting, a prominent California attorney who played an integral part in the planning and development of Bear Valley Springs.  Mr. Whiting was responsible for writing and adopting the “Covenants and Restrictions” for Bear Valley Springs, while also working with county and state agencies in developing the concepts for our community.  Mr. Whiting was elected as the first President of the Bear Valley Springs Association in 1971 and was holding that office in 1973 when he and his wife, Mary Ann, were tragically killed in a plane crash. Dart Resorts, a division of Dart Industries Inc., chose to honor Mr. Whiting’s contributions to this community through the official dedication of the Whiting Center on Saturday, July 24th, 1976.

Special Events

The Whiting Center hosts an annual “Spooktackular” Harvest Carnival with little ghost and goblins, cake walk and games galore.  A Holiday Bazaar is held annually, hosted by the Cultural Arts Association where one might find special gifts for Christmas. We also host Vineyard Tea, Pops Orchestra, Santa Party with Santa's Workshop, pancake breakfast and gifts for sale.  We also have pictures with Santa in his sled.

Amenities Reservations

We provide applications to reserve any of our associated amenities. 4-Island Lake has two reserve areas and Cub Lake has 5 reserve areas. Reservations for Town Center Campground or Water Canyon Campground are made at the Whiting Center.  Reservations require the property owner to come in person to the Whiting Center and bring their amenity card.  We also sell fishing permits for your guests and boat tags (that are required for all water vessels on 4-Island Lake).  A California fishing license is not required to fish in our lakes in BVS. Table and chair rentals are available to reserve through the Whiting Center at a nominal fee.  The member is responsible for the pick up and return of all reserve items.

Sports Leagues & Camps

The mission of our Bear Valley Youth Sports League is to provide recreational team sports opportunities while encouraging and promoting learning, social interaction, physical exercise, sportsmanship, fundamental game skill development and accountability in a fun and safe environment. BVS Youth Sports also teach the important life lessons of seeing a commitment through to completion, setting and achieving goals, punctuality, accountability, and learning to work cooperatively within a group for a greater common good than that of the individual. These policies have been formulated to foster participation, increase the enjoyment and development of the participating players, and to provide guidelines for the players, coaches, parents and department personnel.
